WCC BuildingSNOW POLICY ~ Westside Community Center follows School District 11 guidelines for inclement weather.  If District 11 is closed, WCC is CLOSED.  However, if District 11 operates on a delay, WCC will be open.

The Center will be closed Monday, February 16 for Presidents’ Day.

AARP Tax- Aide is available in Westside Community Center’s east cottage, 1616 W. Bijou St. from February 2 through April 15. Free tax help for taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to adults 60 and older. This service is available on a first-come, first served basis Mondays and Thursdays from 9 am – 1 pm. For more information, please visit the AARP website www.aarp.org/taxaide or call 1-888-227-7669

English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered at no charge on SUNDAYS .  Class begins at 5:30 and ends at 7:30 p.m.  This is an ongoing program for children and adults open to all English learners of any skill level.  Registration is open each Sunday for new students and children are welcome to attend.  For more information, please call 385-7920 Ext 100.  No class February 1.

The  Fitness Center is OPEN Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30 – 7 pm!  The equipment is available for use at no charge during these hours.   Come meet our new certified fitness instructor, Tracie Dear.

“Parents Night Out”… In partnership with the YMCA, WCC will offer a safe place for children ages 3 – 12 years on Friday,February 27, 2015, 5 – 10 pm.  Parents are able to enjoy a night without the kids and the Y staff will offer a nutritious meal, fun physical activity, and art projects for the children.  The fee is $18 per child.  To register, please call Chris at 329-7254.

Neighborhood Nurse Center –  Operated by Penrose/St. Francis Medical Center serves Westside residents who are uninsured or lack access to medical care. Located at 1616 W. Bijou St, regular hours are from 1:30 – 3:30 pm Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Walk-in appointments as availablePlease call 385-7920 Ext 304 during those hours  for more information.          The Westside Outreach Clinic will have a doctor onsite on Wednesdays, 3:30 – 5:30 pm by appointment only.  385-7920 Ext 304

Pickleball is the sport to try at WCC!     It is a combination of bad minton, ping pong, and tennis.  Paddles and balls will be provided, so please make plans to join us Wednesdays 1 -3 pm  and Fridays 10:30-12:30 pm.   There is no charge, so come give it a try.

SilverSneakers Classic, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 – 10 am.  This fitness class is designed for seniors who want to improve their general health and well-being and…it’s fun!  For more information, please call 385-7920 Ext 100 and then make plans to join us!

YMCA SUMMER Day Camp at WCC offers children ages 5 – 12 years a chance to learn, grow and thrive.  Join us for one week or all twelve weeks from 7:30 am – 5:30 pm.    Program begins May 26 and continues through August 14, (No program July 3) and is CCCAP eligible.  For more information, please call the YMCA at 471-9790.

American Heart Association WALKING PATH at Westside Community Center – This is a sidewalk path that surrounds the Westside Community Center property, .33 miles.  A water fountain  is available in the main building, 1628 W. Bijou Street,  during normal business hours.

Hughes Hall is the perfect place for baby showers, group meetings, drama productions, or birthday parties. For more information on schedules, prices, and policies, please see the “Facilities Rental” tab or call 385-7920 Ext. 100.  Smaller rooms are also available for rent.

Reach Pikes Peak (formerly the Billie Spielman Center) relocated to 312 S. Weber St. !  Reach offers financial assistance and counseling is provided for utilities, prescriptions, transportation, and other life-sustaining needs.   Open weekdays from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Please call 719 358-8396 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
